The program began in Nov. 2001 it includes two parts a Retreat and Follow-up session. It “attempts to respond to the needs of marriages & families, specially in the area of intra-family abuse” but it is open to all couples because it is used to teach couples the tools to resolve problems. Topics of curriculum include: good communication skills, personal growth, domestic violence and Machismo, Impact of violence on children, Mistreatment of minors,
concepts on sexuality.

Spanish Curriculum has been available since approx. 2000. It advises instructors how to teach in Spanish, curricula can be used to teach one couple at a time or in group sessions of two or two and a half hour each. Curricula topics do not focus on specific couple problems but rather focuses on communication and listening skills. This includes how to phrase effective statements, pre & post self evaluations, and the cycle of listening.

The Marriage Enrichment Weekend Program, Inc.

Marriage Enrichment Retreat and Renewal

Three different Spanish Ministries available for married and engaged couples:

-Marriage Enrichment Weekends- 140 weekends have been held in Spanish with nearly 3,000 Hispanic couples in attendance;

-The Marriage Enrichment Retreat began in 2003 and it is a one day program;

-Marriage Enrichment Renewal is the follow-up program which Began in 1993.

Topics covered: purpose of marriage, needs of men/women, Realities of marriage, etc.

Marriage Preparation Resources

Family Welness/Emphasis on Couples

Marriage Preparation began 25 years ago for people being married in Catholic Church. Spanish Curriculum is a book called, En Las Buenas y Para Simpre .

Topics include: 21Chapters regarding various issues such as: communication in marriage, Spirituality, money matters, etc. This book can be used as a work book for people preparing to become a marriage sponsor or mentor couple.

Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program

Marriage Enhancement/Divorce Prevention

 

Across the country but could not specify locations contact said they, “train leaders and encourage them to provide own workshops.”

Curriculum focuses on several key components, the first is speaking and listening safely using the Speaker-Listener Technique (Tecnica Orador/Oyente) and the second also focuses on setting up ground rules in case conflict arises. Topics in Spanish curriculum book include: how to manage conflict (differences between men and women, basic rules to manage conflict, etc), how to manage essential problems (forgiveness and how to restore peace, etc.), and Growth (preservation and protection of friendship, etc.) The workbook is a shorter version of the main book and asks questions about self and partner.
