The state data fact sheets describe statistics on deaths by suicide, estimated hospitalized attempts, and data on medical costs, work loss costs, gender, race/ethnicity, age and method of suicide for each of the fifty states.

Data Sources: Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. HCUP-NISHealthcare Cost Utilization Project-National Inpatient Sample, (2005). Department of Health and Human Services; National Center for Health Statistics. Multiple Cause-of-Death Files (1999-2005). Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.These data were compiled in 2008 by the Childrens Safety Network Economics and Data Analysis Resource Center, at the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE). This fact sheet was produced for the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, supported by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
