(May 4, 2009) - The National Weather Service forecast office in Miami is calling for an above normal rainy season in South Florida. The outlook indicates above normal rainfall from May through October.
While the wetter than normal conditions will help ameliorate current drought conditions in South Florida, improvements may be slow until the normal summer rainfall patterns evolve. That means the extremely high fire danger levels currently plaguing South Florida are unlikely to improve before June.
Typically, the rainy season begins around May 20 or May 27. Meanwhile, South Florida Residents are strongly urged to follow local official instructions concerning water usage and wildfire prevention practices. Between early to Mid-May, drought conditions and fire danger and could deteriorate during these last weeks of the dry season.
