Infection and InjuryShould Breast Pumping be Painful?The first few times you pump may feel uncomfortable, but should not be painful, result in sore nipples, or draw blood. Pain, sore nipples, and nipple irritation or bleeding may be signs of a serious problem. If you are injured or experience persistent pain or bleeding when using your breast pump, contact your doctor immediately. They can also help you fill out a MedWatch report that will go to the FDA for follow-up. You can contact FDA directly by calling 1-800-FDA-1088. Who Should I Contact if I Need Help with My Breast Pump?If you are having trouble using your pump, a qualified health care professional may be able to help you.
