Jimmy Stewart, also known as, James "Jimmy" Stewart was born on May 8, 1908, in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He first appeared on stage in the early 1930's and became a prominent movie actor in 1935. Stewart corresponded with FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, becoming friends with Mr. Hoover and his associates while filming "The FBI Story." Stewart was promoted to a Brigadier General in the United States Air Force Reserves when the Senate finally approved the promotion on July 16, 1959. Stewart's stepson, Ronald McLean, was killed in Vietnam on June 8, 1969. Because of Stewart's continued support of the FBI, an award was presented to him by FBI Director William Webster on July 23, 1983, during the time the FBI was celebrating its 75th Anniversary Gala. The FBI had invited Jimmy and Gloria Stewart as guests to this event.
