In
1957, Jack Soble and his wife, Myra Soble, were
arrested as part of an Espionage Ring known as
the "Mocase." They associated with Jane (Foster)
and George Zlatovski, Alfred Stern, Jacob Albam,
and Boris Morros. After Jack and Myra Sobles'
arrests, they were each interviewed numerous
times. Jack was interviewed at the Federal Correction
Facility in Danbury, Connecticut and Myra was
interviewed at the Women's House of Detention,
in New York City. Both Jack and Myra Soble were
interviewed about members of the espionage ring,
but they both denied knowing many of the members.
They both more or less knew the same people,
thus it appears that they were only known by
certain cell (a small group) in the ring. They
both revealed that they traveled from Russia,
Lithuania, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria,
Japan, Canada, and the United States. Jack Soble
visited Turkey in 1931 to confer with Leon Trotsky
and made a trip to Copenhagen, Denmark to see
Trotsky in 1932. On August 9, 1957, Myra Soble
received a 5½ year prison sentence for
her role in the espionage ring. On October 8,
1957, Federal Judge Richard H. Levet, United
States District Court, Southern District of New
York, reduced Myra Soble's prison sentence from
5½ years to four years. Judge Levet sentenced
Jack Soble to seven years in prison. Jack Soble
was transferred to the Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary,
Lewisburg, Pennsylvania on November 8, 1957.
Myra Soble was transferred to the Alderson Prison
for Women, Alderson, West Virginia on November
12, 1957. Jack Soble was later transferred to
the Medical Center for Federal Prisoners at Springfield,
Missouri. He was later transferred to Danbury,
Connecticut.
