Research Project: DEVELOPING TECHNOLOGY AND PROCEDURES TO MEASURE CHARACTERISTICS OF GRAIN AND PLANTS

Location: Engineering and Wind Erosion Research Unit

Project Number: 5430-44000-015-21
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 24, 2007
End Date: Sep 23, 2010

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research is to develop technology and procedures to measure characteristics of plants, grain, flour, dough, and final products.

Approach:
Rapid analytical technology will be developed or evaluated for their application to measuring traits of agricultural materials. This may include NIRS, raman spectroscopy, laser-based sensors, and hyperspectral imaging for solving problems related to selecting single kernels for breeding programs, measuring plant characteristics for bioprocessing, measuring flour and dough characteristics for specific end uses, and measuring end-use quality.
