On
November 10, 1957, the July 26th Club was changed
to reflect the present name of the organization. It
was to represent two clubs formerly known as the Patriotic
Club of July 26th, Miami and the July 26th Club of
Miami, which operated as separate and rival groups.
On October 20, 1957, the Miami Branch of the Revolutionary
Directory was holding a meeting at the Flagler Theater
in honor of the martyrs who died for the liberty of
Cuba. On July 26, 1953, Fidel Castro Ruz led an unsuccessful
attack on the Moncado Barracks, Oriente Province,
Cuba. He continued waging guerrilla warfare against
the government of Cuban President Batista. On January
1, 1959, President Batista was overthrown and this
organization suspended operations.
