Pierre Elliott Trudeau was the Prime Minister of Canada. On November 1, 1968, Trudeau visited New York City to attend the theater and have lunch with U Thant, Secretary General of the United Nations. Trudeau visited Washington, D.C. on March 24 - 25, 1969. On March 25, 1969, while Trudeau was visiting President Nixon in the White House, the smoke alarm went off at the Blair House, where Trudeau was staying while visiting the United States. Smoking wires were found in the basement of the Blair House. On June 16, 1976, Trudeau visited the Capital Yacht Club at 1000 Water Street, Southwest, Washington, D.C. to see a Nova Scotian Schooner and shake hands with the captain, before proceeding to the Canadian Ambassador's residence.
