All
public and private sector laboratories in the United States are
invited to join the Labs21 Partnership Program. The goal of the
program is to encourage the development of sustainable, high performance,
and low-energy laboratories nationwide. To see if you are eligable
for this program, and to learn more about how to join, simply review
the criteria for becoming a Partner.
To apply for the Labs21 Partners Program, fill out
the online Partner
application form
or complete a hard copy of the application
(
3 pp., 143 KB, about
PDF) and submit it via fax to 703 841-1440.
When you apply, you'll join more than four dozen corporations, universities,
and government agencies that have already become Labs21
Partners. These organizations have voluntarily agreed to apply
sustainable design and management strategies to a specific laboratory
project. In exchange for this commitment, the Labs21 program offers
national recognition, as well as the opportunity for technical assistance
and other benefits.
For more information on the goals and activities of the program,
review the Partnership Program
Fact Sheet (

PDF).
If your organization does not yet have a specific laboratory project,
but is committed to sustainable laboratory design, consider joining
the program as a Prospect.
Labs21 Partners Win Federal Awards!
The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) was awarded a 2006 Federal Energy and Water Management Award! The award is sponsored by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Federal Interagency Energy Policy Committee to recognize outstanding contributions made toward the efficient use of energy and water resources in the federal sector during FY 2005.
In addition, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) was featured as part of the 2006 Federal Energy Saver Showcase Awards, which is also sponsored by DOE. The Showcase offers government agencies the opportunity to highlight cost effective, energy- and water- efficient renewable technologies in their facilities.
NREL and LBNL joined Labs21 as pilot partners in 2002. The Labs21 Approach and tools, such as the Labs21 Environmental Performance Criteria (EPC), were utilized during the design phase of NREL’s Science and Technology Facility (S&TF) and LBNL’s Molecular Foundry. Both Partners are now being recognized for significantly reducing energy use at these facilities, a goal that was achieved with the help of Labs21 tools and technical support. NREL’s S&TF is projected to consume 40 percent less energy than standard laboratory facilities, while LBNL’s Molecular Foundry is projected to consume 30 percent less energy than the already-stringent California requirement for laboratory buildings.
The awards were presented on October 5, 2006, during a luncheon at the National Press Club. Visit the Federal Energy Management Program Web site for more information on the Federal Energy and Water Management Awards.
