Community Groups to Receive $1 Billion Boost From Recovery Act
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) today released $1 billion for the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program. Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the new resources will be allocated to states across the country. States will distribute the new funding to community groups that help Americans through tough economic times.
The above funding levels for Improving and Preserving Health Care and for Health IT are estimates as of May 1, 2009. These estimates are being further refined and the chart will be updated when new estimates are available.
HHS Establishes the Strengthening Communities Fund
Partnering with Private and public organizations , HHS will provide one-time, two year grants to aid communities severely affected by the economic downturn. Non-Profits, Faith-Based, states, cities, counties and Tribal/Native American organizations which help families may apply for grants through two components of the Fund: 1) Non-Profit Capacity-Building Program, and 2) the State, Local, and Tribal Government Capacity-Building Program.
The Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER) will coordinate the research efforts to compare medical treatments and strategies to improve health. This information is essential for clinicians and patients to decide on the best treatment. It also enables our nation to improve the health of communities and the performance of the health system.
Most of Recovery Act funding will go to States, Territories, and Tribes, who will in turn distribute funds through grants, contracts, subsidies, loan programs, etc. Be sure to check your State Web site for information. Additionally, check the list of State Recovery sites for a link to your state.
