SAMHSA is committed to providing a broad set of opportunities for the professional growth and career development of its staff. SAMHSA offers a variety of internal and external training courses as well as other opportunities for individual learning. All of these provide avenues to learn leading edge management tools and techniques, share knowledge across SAMHSA, gain new perspectives, and practice applying new skills. They include:

  • The SAMHSA Leadership Development Program (LDP), designed to build the core competencies of its executives, supervisors, and managers through a variety of competency-based learning opportunities including:
    • Instructor-led courses
    • Leadership seminars
    • Mentoring and coaching opportunities
    • A resource library with books, journal articles, and videos by leading management experts
    • Self-paced learning activities
  • Seminars, brown bag and “Learn-at Lunch” discussions and presentations, all of which are open to any interested SAMHSA staff. These include the Seminar Series competency-based trainings sponsored by the Leadership and Professional Development Workgroup of the LDP, and the SAMHSA Health and Wellbeing Committee Learn at Lunch series.
  • Technical competency-based trainings, offered internally and through the HHS University.
