Katrina Relief Efforts

3:00 p.m.
On Saturday, September 24, 2005, The United
States Capitol Police will be sending relief assistance to
the Southern District of Mississippi. A team of 11 officers
and 4 civilian support units will be departing from Capitol
Hill at 7:00 a.m., and will be deployed for approximately
30 days. They will report to the United States Marshal Service
Emergency Operations Center located in Gulfport, Mississippi.
The primary mission of the deployment is to
assist the United States Marshal Service with law enforcement
and security operations along the gulf coast region. Under
authority of the United States Marshal Service, the officers
have been deputized and given all the law enforcement powers
needed perform their requested duties. The Department would
like to recognize the efforts and support put forth by both
the United States Senate and House of Representatives.
