Mr. MacKinnon also served on the Juneau Planning Commission for five years and then the Juneau Assembly for twelve years, the last six as deputy mayor. Mr. MacKinnon's 24 years as a building contractor and experience with other business interests in Southeast Alaska contribute to his knowledge of both the private and public sectors. He has a bachelor's degree in marine resource ecology from Huxley College of Environmental Studies at Western Washington State College and was a fisheries biologist for two years after graduation from college. |
John MacKinnon is a fourth generation Alaskan, who, prior to becoming Executive Director of the Associated General Contractors was deputy commissioner of Highways and Public Facilities for the Department of Transportation. As deputy commissioner, he was responsible for the state highway program, policy and planning, administration, budget, and legislative relations. Prior to his service at the Department of Transportation he was the acting city manager for the City and Borough of Juneau.
