Ms. Nickels is the Director of the Bering Strait Development Council, an ARDOR, and Kawerak’s Community Planning and Development program. Ms. Nickels has held these positions for four years and leads regional economic development efforts in the Bering Strait region through the ARDOR. Through her Kawerak position she provides technical assistance to community members and Alaska Native IRA, Corporation and City organizations with small business development, feasibility studies, business plans, marketing, start-up capital, E-Commerce, and grant writing. Ms. Nickels further assists all communities in the region to complete five-year Local Economic Development Plans (LEDPs) and a regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). Ms. Nickels has many years of business management and non-profit management experience; managing a large retail store for more than 15 years and a community non-profit for 10 years. Ms. Nickels is very involved in all local community efforts, including past President of the Nome Preschool and the Nome School District Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Ms. Nickels is currently a Nome School District Board of Education member. |
