The last year has been a busy time for the Training Program and many positive employment opportunities for many people have been the result of much hard work by our statewide partnerships.  The Denali Commission would like to thank our training and employment partners for their perseverance and determination in building a reliable, confident and competent workforce in rural Alaska.

In Togiak, Alaska the DTF funded training for nine residents to operate the new rock crusher.  The rock crusher was a Denali Commission investment through our Economic Development Program. All trainees are now gainfully employed and the City of Togiak has a competent crew that they can rely on for maintenance and operation of their new equipment.

In Chignik Bay, STG trained 8 individuals early 2008 in the basics of carpentry. STG, who is the contractor for the construction of the Chignik Bay Clinic, then hired all 8 individuals to assist building the new clinic, all have had steady work until completion of the project.

In Goodnews Bay, Dowland Construction who is the contractor building the new Clinic, contacted Alaska Works Partnership to get a list of all trained-up residents in Goodnews Bay. They were able to hire 9 local individuals for the laborer work and will keep them employed as needed throughout the project. The Denali Commission awards funds to Alaska Works to train rural residents for Denali Commission projects.

In Southeast Alaska the Denali Commission supported the training of 50 individuals for standard janitorial training that has lead to cleaner health facilities, an empowered workforce and a standardized cleaning system.
