Joint Functional Component Command for Space (JFCC SPACE)

Mission

JFCC SPACE continuously coordinates, plans, integrates, commands and controls space operations to provide tailored, responsive, local and global effects, and on order, denies the enemy the same, in support of national, United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) and combatant commander objectives.

 

Background

The Unified Command Plan (UCP), updated in 2006, assigned USSTRATCOM the responsibility for "planning and conducting space operations (force enhancement, space control, and space support, including spacelift and on-orbit operations, and force application)."  The Commander, USSTRATCOM (CDRUSSTRATCOM), established JFCC SPACE in July 2006, to optimize planning, execution, and force management of the assigned missions and to coordinate space operations.  CDRUSSTRATCOM designated the Commander, Fourteenth Air Force, as Commander, JFCC SPACE (CDR JFCC SPACE).  The CDR JFCC SPACE conducts space operations, exercises Operational Control (OPCON) of designated space and missile warning forces on behalf of CDRUSSTRATCOM, and submits prioritized space operational requirements to CDRUSSTRATCOM.  CDR JFCC SPACE is also designated as the Global Space Coordinating Authority (GSCA).

 

Current Operations

CDR JFCC SPACE serves as the single point of contact for military space operational matters to plan, task, direct, assess, and execute space operations.  JFCC SPACE conducts space operational-level planning, integration, and coordination with other USSTRATCOM joint functional components, other combatant commanders through their space coordinating authority (SCA), and other Department of Defense (DoD), and when directed, non-DoD partners to ensure unity of effort in support of military, national security operations, and support to civil authorities.  Current operations include:

·        Gain and/or maintain Space Situational Awareness (SSA)

·        Conduct space force enhancement operations

·        Conduct space support operations

·        Conducting space control operations

·        Assess and report mission readiness

  

Personnel

JFCC SPACE is authorized 120 billets.

 

Budget

JFCC SPACE is funded through USSTRATCOM and operates as a branch of USSTRATCOM.
