U.S. Capitol Police Officer Struck at 1st and Constitution NE 

On Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at approximately 9:50 A.M., U.S. Capitol Police Officer John W. Ruskoski was struck by a moving vehicle at the intersection of 1st and Constitution, NE, while on routine motorcycle patrol. Officer Ruskoski, a seven year veteran of the Department, was transported to MedSTAR at the Washington Hospital Center where he was treated for his injuries and released.

The following street closures were in effect from 9:50 A.M. to 11:15 A.M, while the incident was investigated:

  • First Street NE, between East Capitol Street and Constitution Avenue NE.
  • Westbound traffic along Constitution Avenue was diverted at 2nd Street NE.
