Wayne E. Esaias received his B.A. degree from The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, in 1967 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in biological oceanography from Oregon State University, Corvallis, in 1969 and 1973, respectively. He has been a Biological Oceanographer at NASA��s Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD, since 1984, specializing in satellite observations of ocean optical properties (ocean color) to study phytoplankton distributions on regional and global scales. He led the Global CZCS reprocessing team effort, developed the Ocean Data Acquisition System (ODAS), an airborne color sensor, and was Project Scientist for the Goddard SeaWiFS Project until 1994, when he became Full-Time Leader of the MODIS Instrument Ocean Team. He headed the MODIS Instrument Science Requirements Panel while at NASA Headquarters, Washington, DC, from 1982 to 1984.
