Basic Information

The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) has developed a report titled "Science for the 21st Century" to better communicate the science policies and accomplishments of the current Administration and to illustrate how today’s science provides benefits for the economy and the national quality of life far into the future.

Each federal agency with science as part of its mission has been asked to showcase how science in their organizations is addressing the critical scientific questions facing the nation. This Web site emphasizes results and outcomes and illustrates science in action at either the national or local levels. The information contained in the report focuses on four major areas of responsibility:

EPA has made significant contributions to each of these research areas through its commitment to use sound science to safeguard both human health and the environment. The Agency performs leading-edge research that helps provide the solid underpinning of science and technology for the federal science enterprise. EPA conducts said research in ways that help prevent pollution, protect human health, and produce measurable benefits to the nation.
