On August 30, 2004, the remnants of Tropical Storm Gaston
dumped heavy rainfall in the Richmond area and the southern part of Maryland's eastern shore.
Figure 1 shows a TRMM image of the storm. A part of the city
was flooded and a portion of Interstate 95 was closed due to flooding.
The floods stranded hundreds of people and at least six people were killed
according to news reports.
