About Us:

Partners in Flight (PIF) was launched in 1990 by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to halt the declining populations of many land bird species, and in order to conserve birds not covered by existing conservation initiatives. PIF is a cooperative effort involving partnerships between federal, state and local government agencies, philanthropic foundations, professional organizations, conservation groups, the academic community, and private individuals. Its goal is to focus resources on the improvement of monitoring and inventory, research, management, and educational programs involving birds and their habitats through cooperative public and private sector efforts in North American and the Neotropics. For additional information about PIF, please visit their homepage at: http://www.partnersinflight.org

PIF’s organizational structure includes working groups in the West, Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast. The mission of regional working groups is to develop a regional strategy for bird conservation and to foster communication, coordination and cooperation among participating agencies and organizations. The following states are represented on the PIF Northeast Working Group: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. These states have “State PIF Working Group Chairs” who coordinate PIF bird conservation activities in their state, represent their organization at PIF meetings and on the Northeast Working Group. Several of these states have PIF-related websites which are linked to above.
