Regional Biological Technical Capabilities
Once the biocriteria technical guidance documents are complete, States and Tribes will need additional resources and expertise to derive regionally specific biocriteria and to incorporate biocriteria into their water quality standards. EPA will assist the states and tribes in doing this.
EPA will build Regional biological technical capabilities to support State/Tribal programs throughout 1998-2005, by:
- Identifying basic core expertise needed in each Region, including regional biological assessment & criteria leaders.
- Supporting development of Regional workplans to build and maintain biological assessment and criteria technical programs.
- Providing funding to Regions to help implement the biological assessment and criteria workplan.
- Providing funding support to the States and Tribes, where necessary, to pilot the use of biocriteria and bioassessments in water quality standards.
EPA will provide technical training for the regions, states and tribes on the derivation and implementation of biocriteria for different waterbodies as technical guidance manuals become available.
State,
Tribal, and Regional Contacts and Web Sites
Many state and regional offices have established web sites to share
their experiences in developing biocriteria.
