AMIT K. SACHDEV APPOINTED FDA’S SENIOR ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER FOR LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS

Dr. Lester M. Crawford, FDA Deputy Commissioner, today announced the appointment of Mr. Amit K. Sachdev as FDA’s Senior Associate Commissioner for Legislative Affairs.

"Amit’s appointment adds a lot to the already strong leadership of our agency," Dr. Crawford said. "He has an extensive and diverse background in government service and public policy that is perfectly suited toward directing FDA’s interactions with Congress."

Mr. Sachdev, a lawyer, served for the last four years as the Majority Counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives’s Committee on Energy and Commerce. Prior to that, he worked at the Washington D.C. offices of the law firm of Ropes and Gray (May 1997- November 1998); and the Office of General Counsel at the Chemical Manufacturers Association (September 1993 -April 1997). He also served as an Honors Clerk at the U.S. Department of Justice during the summer of 1992.

Mr. Sachdev received a B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University, and a J.D. from the Emory University School of Law.

In his new office, Mr. Sachdev will oversee FDA's Office of Legislative Affairs which serves as the agency’s liaison with the U.S. Congress.
