Camping

Hyatt CampgroundCamping is one of the many ways people enjoy the beauty and diversity of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. The Hyatt Lake Recreational Area offers several developed campgrounds, and dispersed camping is allowed throughout most of the CSNM.

Dispersed Camping

Car camping and backpacking are popular activities in the CSNM. In order to protect monument resources, please camp in already disturbed areas. Please practice Leave No Trace camping techniques at all times. Vehicles accessing existing dispersed camping sites must stay within 50 feet of the road.

Prior authorization is needed for groups greater than 25 people in the north management zone and 12 people in the South Management Zone (PDF). Contact Dennis Byrd at 541-618-2369 for additional information.

Dispersed camping is not allowed in the following areas:

  • Hyatt Lake Recreation Area
  • Riparian and Wetland Areas
  • Research Natural Areas
  • Structures at the Box Ranch
  • Archaeological or Cultural Sites

Campfires

Campfires are allowed in areas where dispersed camping is permitted, as long as they are consistent with Oregon state regulations. Fires are often prohibited during the dry season. Please contact the Oregon Department of Forestry for updated information on fire restrictions: 541-664-3328.

Collect only dead and downed wood for campfires. Live wood and snags may not be cut within the monument.
