Rural Community College Initiative Offers Information on How Colleges are Increasing Their Ability to Help Their Communities
A number of publications about the Rural Community College Initiative (RCCI) are available from MDC. These papers describe the formation and evolution of the RCCI, how schools built and continue to build their abilities to serve their communities, and the results from ongoing evaluation efforts. RCCI is a capacity building initiative originally funded by the Ford Foundation for colleges in rural, distressed regions. In rural areas, community colleges are often the sole source of community and economic development assistance and, in many cases, drive those initiatives. RCCI is now run by the Southern Rural Development Center at Mississippi State University and the North Central Regional Center for Rural Development at Iowa State University.
