Governor Steve Beshear

Governor Steve Beshear of Kentucky
A native of Dawson Springs, Kentucky, Governor Beshear graduated from the University of Kentucky and subsequently earned his law degree from the university’s College of Law. Following law school, he served as an intelligence officer in the United States Army Reserve and practiced law in New York. Beshear began his public service career in 1974 with his election to the Kentucky House of Representatives. In 1979 he was elected state attorney general, and in 1983, lieutenant governor. As lieutenant governor, he created and headed the Kentucky Tomorrow Commission to identify the state’s existing and future challenges and propose solutions to longstanding issues facing the state government. In 1988 he returned to private law practice, in Lexington, and became senior executive of a multi-state law firm, counseling both large and small businesses enterprises. Beshear was elected Kentucky’s governor in November 2007.
