Oceanic "Kelvin" Wave Reaches South America
April 25, 1997
About one month after being triggered by east-blowing
winds near Australia, an oceanic "Kelvin" wave reached South
America. During this period, the oceanic pulse travelled
over one-third the circumference of the earth!
The Kelvin wave is seen as the red and white band along
the equator, indicating sea level height that is above
average.
