An Anacostia River That's Clean Doesn't Have to be a Dream
When litter's on the ground, and the rain falls down, it ends up in the Anacostia River. So when you take your last drag, or you just have a bag, please do your part and don't litter.
The Earth Conservation Corps (ECC) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have launched an anti-litter campaign with posters displayed on Metro buses and in Metro Rail stations. The public service advertisements were designed by the ECC, a Washington DC based youth development and environmental service organization.
The campaign seeks to educate the public about the effect that litter has on the Anacostia River, and urges residents and others to help restore the health and vitality of the River by not littering. Each year tons of trash and litter are removed from the Anacostia River by organizations such as the ECC, citizen groups and volunteers. The intent of the posters is to change and modify behavior. If citizens don't place trash and litter in places where it can get into the river—it will eliminate the need to hold yearly campaigns to remove trash and debris from the River.
In early 2006, the ECC partnered with EPA to launch an anti-litter campaign poster contest with ECC members. As part of the contest, ECC members were asked to design posters aimed at curbing littering of the Anacostia River.
The winning poster was designed by Ricardo Moore, Latrice Shorts, Katrina Washington, Hollis Wright and Daryl Wallace. The theme of the winning poster is: "An Anacostia River That's Clean Doesn't Have to Be a Dream." During the month of April, the poster will be displayed on 20 Metro buses, inside 200 Metro buses, and featured in five Metro stations, including L'Enfant Plaza, Anacostia, Stadium-Armory, Tenleytown-American University and Farragut West.
The Anacostia River, which flows through the nation's Capital, is one of the nation's most polluted rivers. The ECC and EPA have successfully promoted restoration efforts, including massive trash cleanups, designed to improve and protect the ecologically valuable Anacostia River.

About the Earth Conservation Corps
The Earth Conservation Corps 
, a nonprofit organization founded in 1989, provides professional development and environmental training to disadvantaged young people ages 17 to 25 from the Washington Metro area. It motivates these youth to be leaders, engaging communities in education and service focused on restoring the Anacostia River.

This poster depicts some common water body uses (such as fishing, swimming and boating) in communities across the U.S.
There are two versions of this poster. One version contains space (lower-left) for you to insert your organization's logo and contact information. The other version has no such space. Both versions are available as paper-sized (8.5 x 11″), suitable for printing from an office printer. The version with space for your logo is also available poster-sized (26x28″), suitable for submitting to your local professional printer.
- This version of the poster contains the EPA logo and space for you to insert your organization's logo (in the lower left of the poster). To insert the logo, download the poster file and submit a copy of your organization's logo (either camera-ready or electronic file, 300dpi or better) to your local professional printer along with the downloaded poster file. Please note: this file can be used for printing a variety of poster sizes; however, printing greater than the largest standard sheet size of 26 x 28" may be prohibitively expensive. In addition, these files are very large.
