Join the Program

Get Connected to the Network

Partners and Endorsers join the Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) voluntarily to gain a greater understanding of landfill gas (LFG) efforts and to build connections with other interested parties.

LMOP consists of an Endorser program and four Partnership programs-Industry Partner Program, Energy Partner Program, State Partner Program, and Community Partner Program-involving energy service providers, LFG industry organizations, state agencies, communities and landfill owner/operators, and other stakeholders. By joining LMOP, your state agency, organization, company, landfill, or community gains access to a vast network of industry experts and practitioners, as well as to various technical and marketing resources that can help with LFG energy project development.

Organizations that focus on only international activities may want to consider joining the Methane to Markets Partnership instead of LMOP. LMOP works in conjunction with the Methane to Markets Partnership to promote landfill gas energy project development globally. More detailed information about the Partnership can be found on the Methane to Markets Partnership Web site. Exiting EPA

Industry Partners include landfill owners, developers, consultants, and equipment suppliers. These partners promote economically and technically sound projects and educate others about the benefits of using LFG as an energy resource. Examples: Ameresco, Caterpillar, Chadbourne & Parke, Ctrade.org, DTE Biomass, Energy Developments, Fairbanks Morse Engine, and Ingersoll-Rand Energy Systems.

Energy Partners include power providers, marketers, and energy end-users. Power providers and marketers make LFG an attractive part of their green/renewable energy portfolio. Energy end-users provide information about the economic, environmental, and societal benefits of using LFG. Examples: General Motors, BMW Manufacturing Corp., Interface, Green Mountain Energy, Alliant Energy, Omaha Public Power District, Santee Cooper, Tennessee Valley Authority, and Wabash Valley Power.

State Partners include state air and solid waste departments, energy and economic development offices, universities, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). These groups work to encourage coordination among permitting and regulatory offices to lower barriers and increase opportunities for LFG recovery. Examples: South Carolina Energy Office, Delaware Solid Waste Authority, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Ohio State University, and Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.

Community Partners include local, county and regional governments, and nonprofit organizations who develop and publicize LFG use projects. Community Partners work to promote their projects and their participation in LMOP through the development of case studies and community outreach activities. Examples: Anderson County-SC, City of Corpus Christi-TX, City of Fort Smith-AR, Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority-CA, and Rolling Hills Resource Conservation and Development Council-GA.

Endorsers include local, state, regional, and national non-profit organizations with influence over land-use, waste management, or energy use decisions. Examples of current Endorsers are the American Public Power Association, State Chapters and National Office of the Solid Waste Association of North America, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, and the South Carolina Association of Counties.
