Classification, National Library of Medicine
Published annually online only beginning with 2002. Incorporates all additions and changes to the classification
schedules since the previous edition to reflect developments in
biomedicine, notably medical informatics, biotechnology, immune
complex disease, research, and public health. Index is revised
annually and includes many new concepts from the latest edition
of the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH®). The print edition
ceased in 1999. As of 2002, the NLM Classification is
available free online at http://wwwcf.nlm.nih.gov/class and is fully searchable. The online NLM Classification features
hyperlinks from the Index headings to the appropriate
classification numbers in the Schedules; from any MeSH term in
the Index to full descriptor data in the MeSH Browser; from
cross-references within the Index to the referred term; between
and among numbers within the text of the Schedules; to the
geographic table G, and to other appropriate documentation. It
