SUMMARY: Colorado will develop an apprenticeship program that is based on a credentialing model defined by Colorado child care stakeholders, develop new training components, and pilot an apprenticeship program. The proposal proposes two training components, the first will target individuals for entry-level training. Fifty individuals will be recruited to begin entry level training and placement in child care facilities. The second training component targets twenty individuals already employed in child care who will receive college training through the T.E.A.C.H. program. The apprenticeship grant will assist Colorado in developing a sustainable child care professional development infrastructure through the National Apprenticeship System.

SUMMARY: The Washington Quality Child Care Initiative will be implemented statewide and serve as a national model for expanded application of the apprenticeship training model. This project will include apprenticeship training for child care assistant, site coordinator, and educational para-professional. Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committees (JATC) will administer education and on-the-job training for the three occupations. Post-secondary schools in Washington will deliver the related supplemental instruction. JATCs, post-secondary schools, and employers will sustain an enduring partnership.

SUMMARY: The D.C. Department of Employment Services will establish a partnership to develop the "District of Columbia Child Development Specialist Apprenticeship Program (D.C. CDSAP)." The CDSAP will be a two year program of theory, training and practicum. It will include 4000 hours of work experience and 480 hours of course work. The goals of the program will be to provide structured formalized education, offer apprenticeship training designed specifically for employed child care workers, link structured training with increased compensation, improve quality, staff retention and wages, and serve as a vehicle for leadership development and career progression.
