In this colorful MODIS image from November 15, 2001, the dramatic vegetation transition from the drier, lake-dotted Tibetan Plateau (upper left) to the lush vegetation of northern India emphasizes the profound influence of the Himalaya Mountains on the regional climate. In the lower portion of the image, brownish sediment is pouring out of the Mouths of the Ganges into the Bay of Bengal.
