ETA/ORR Refugee Employment Collaboration
Program Goal
ORR is collaborating with the Employment Training Administration at the U.S. Department of Labor. The Refugee Employment Collaboration focuses on identifying vocational training programs and highlights employment programs and relevant resources that might be available to assist ORR partners. Additionally, it helps identify and share best practices from successful models where ORR partners are working with the workforce investment system.
General Background
ORR/ETA Refugee Employment Collaboration is a new informal initiative with the ETA. In September of 2007 ORR/HHS and ETA/DOL entered into an agreement in which two ORR team members were sent to ETA to develop strategies to encourage and enable organizations that provide employment services to refugees to become partners with local One-Stop career centers. The goal is to promote increased collaboration between both federal agencies. The agreement also notes the possibility of ETA/DOL staff coming to ORR/HHS in a cross-agency exchange program that would further enhance the mutual understanding and strengthen the working relationship between ETA and ORR.
