The Terra MODIS instrument captured this true-color image of snowcovering the mountain ranges of (clockwise from top left) Austria, Slovakia, theUkraine, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Yugoslavia,Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, and Slovenia. The two major ranges shown are theTransylvanian Alps in Romania and the Balkan Mountains in Bulgaria.On the bottomleft is the Adriatic Sea, and just visible at the bottom center is the AdriaticSea. Across the Adriatic is the Italian peninsula. This image was acquiredDecember 20, 2002.
