Appendix D
Nutrient Content Claims

Contains Nonbinding Recommendations.

Information on nutrient content claims is located in the Food Labeling Guide Appendix A - Definitions of Nutrient Content Claims and Appendix B - Relative (or Comparative) Claims. Note that this information is for foods in general, e.g. the information regarding the use of nutrient content claims to describe meals is not applicable to dietary supplements. Also 21 CFR 101.60(a)(4) provides that "calorie free" and "low calorie" claims can be made for a dietary supplement if it is a substitute for a similar product that has more than 40 calories per serving.
