These public lands extend about 100 miles along theeast side of theCascade Mountains crest andeastward into the Ochoco Mountains. They are richinhuman and natural history andradiate variety offering a multitude of diverse scenic and recreation opportunities. Alpine forests and lush meadows, sparkling lakes and scenic rivers, dense evergreen forests, and lava caves are contained within the spectacular snow capped volcanicpeaks of the CascadeMountain Range to the west andhigh desert to the east. Newberry National Volcanic Monument offers an Links to Rec Infoup close andpersonal look at volcanoes and is home to the enendangered pumice grape fern.

Weed-free Feed Required in Northwest Forests
As part of a larger effort to reduce invasive species on national forest lands, weed-free feed is being required in the 17 national forests and the Crooked River National Grasslands of the Pacific Northwest this year. This follows a requirement in 2007 that weed-free feed be used in Pacific Northwest Wildernesses. Read more>>>
