International Travel Checklist

  • Check U.S. Department of State Current Travel Warnings to determine if there are any restrictions on official travel to the country you wish to visit.

  • Confirm ticketing dates.

  • Verify that all flights in the itinerary are US Flagship if possible, in accordance with the Fly America Act and Open Skies Agreement.
    • If not, contact your Federal Agency Travel Administrator (FATA) to assist with a waiver.

  • Prepare a Notice of Foreign Travel (NFT) to be filed with and approved by the Office of Global Health Affairs (OGHA). OGHA will also send your country clearance cable and register you with the appropriate Embassies.
    • Contact your FATA to request the NFT form.

  • Attend security briefing as directed by your OPDIV.

  • Check the expiration date of your official passport to make sure that it is valid for at least six months from your departure date. If you do not have an official passport, contact your FATA .

  • Contact your FATA to determine if a visa is required for official travel by the country you are visiting.

  • Check with your personal physician to determine any additional vaccinations needed.
    • Regulations require yellow fever vaccination for travel to certain countries in sub-Saharan Africa and tropical South America.
    • The government of Saudi Arabia requires Meningococcal vaccination for travel during the Hajj.
  • Reconfirm your flights 72 hours before departure.

  • Attend security de-briefing as directed by your OPDIV.

  • Prepare a trip report to be added to your NFT by OGHA.

  • Prepare GovTrip voucher within 5 days of your return date.
