COREY HOZE NAMED HHS REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE
FOR CHICAGO REGION

HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson has announced the appointment of Corey R. Hoze as the Secretary's regional representative for Region V, based in Chicago.

In his new position, Hoze will be the Secretary's direct representative responsible for guidance and coordination of HHS policies in the region. The area includes the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

"Corey Hoze's experience shows he will build key relationships within communities, the public and private sector," said Secretary Thompson. "His cross-cutting background will be a true asset to HHS and will make a significant impact in the Midwest."

Prior to joining HHS, Hoze managed corporate affairs at Miller Brewing Co. in Milwaukee, Wis., responsible for developing and implementing national media strategies to augment Miller's alcohol responsibility initiatives, particularly in the African-American community. Additionally, Hoze managed the administration of Miller's brewing industry policies and served as senior advisor to distributors and senior management.

From 1997 to 1999, Hoze was the administrator of the division of economic development at the Department of Commerce in Wisconsin. Responsible for a $250 million portfolio of more than 1,000 grants and loans, Hoze was the primary advisor to the Secretary of Commerce in Wisconsin on economic development initiatives, programs and new business development. Previously, Hoze was director of the Milwaukee Office of the Governor from 1995 to 1997, acting as the governor's chief representative in southeastern Wisconsin, and liaison between the governor and local officials, business and community leaders.

Hoze was listed as one of the "100 Most Influential Black Milwaukeeans" in the March 5, 1997, edition of The Community Journal. That same year, he also was the recipient of the It Takes a Village Award by Community Journal.

Hoze received a bachelor's in economics and a bachelor's in religion from Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., in 1991.

He assumed the regional post Jan. 14.
