The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is
a federally funded program. It helps eligible households pay a portion
of their home energy costs by providing a one-time per year
benefit. This assistance must be applied for each year during
the application period.
Current Application Period
The application period is January 20 through March 31, 2009
Both income and family guidelines must be met to receive
this benefit. This one-time per year payment is sent to the energy
provider. The family pays the remainder of their energy costs. You
may apply for this program only during the open application period.
Call or visit your local SRS office during this time period to find
out if you are eligible or to apply.
Persons Eligible
In order to qualify, applicants must meet the following
requirements:
1) An adult living at the address must
be personally responsible for purchasing heating costs incurred at
the current
residence, payable either to the landlord or to the fuel vendor.
2) Applicants must demonstrate a
recent history of payments toward purchase of the primary heating
fuel for their home.
3) The combined gross income (before deductions)
of all persons living at the address may not exceed 130% of the federal
poverty level according to the guidelines listed below:
