Subject: request from DOE for code performance documentation
Author: Francesca Verdier <fverdier_at_lbl.gov>

This message is being sent on behalf of Horst Simon, NERSC Director, and the DOE Office of Advanced Scientific Computing which funds NERSC: The DOE Office of Advanced Scientific Computing has asked us (the Applications Performance Matrix team) to work with users to assemble information about the performance of their codes on high performance computers. We have established a website that aggregates this information and provides tools to help classify and visualize the data. The site is located at http://www.appsmatrix.info/ DOE believes that the aggregated data and the analysis tools provided at this site will become increasingly useful to the technical community as the datasets included in the matrix increase in size and diversity. We are writing to you as a major user of DOE facilities and on behalf of ASCR to ask your assistance in providing information about one or more of your codes for the Applications Performance Matrix (APM). Information can only be submitted using an online form found at http://www.appsmatrix.info/matrix/matrix_submit/ In addition please note that 1. You are asked to submit full runs of your scientific and engineering codes on real machines (i.e., please do not submit projected or expected results). 2. A reference is required. Please provide either a citation to a paper available in the open literature or to an electronic version of a preprint or technical report. 3. If you introduce a scientific metric (e.g., computed years per day of computation in climate), briefly and clearly explain its meaning. 4. A scientific point of contact must be provided. If you have questions about the process or about how to submit data please contact Ron Winther at winther@krellinst.org Finally, any comments or suggestions that you have on the site, how well it functions and how it can be improved, are welcome. Thank you for your help The Matrix Team -- Francesca Verdier email: fverdier@lbl.gov Group Lead, NERSC User Services phone: 510-486-7193
