Dear Franklin Users,
Franklin maintenance is now complete. The issue of user authentication
has been fixed. The system is available for interactive and batch use.
The following activities were completed during this maintenance period:
1. Upgrade Franklin OS from 2.1 to 2.1.UP01, plus patches
2. Install new I/O server hardware
3. Modify network configuration for on-going I/O upgrade
4. Perform general hardware repair
5. Reduce batch wallclock limit from 36 hours to 24 hours
Item 1 is expected to improve system stability. Items 1-3 might
introduce unforeseen side-effects, but NERSC and Cray staff are prepared
to manage any problems that might occur. Regarding item 5, this change
is being made to more easily schedule downtimes as NERSC continues with
Franklin's upgrade. We expect to return to a limit of 36 hours sometime
this summer.
Please note that the next scheduled maintenance for Franklin is Tuesday,
March 24, from 7 AM to 4 PM Pacific Time. The details of Franklin
stability and I/O improvement plan is available at:

As always, please contact NERSC consulting if you have any questions or
experience any problems.
