FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- North Bergen, NJ -- January 29, 2009 -- The Vitamin Shoppe is removing all Vitamin Shoppe labeled trail mix containing peanuts effective immediately. The Hershey Import Company, who manufacturers the trail mix products for The Vitamin Shoppe, advised the company today that the peanuts in the products were provided by the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA).
This is in response to the Food and Drug Administration decision to expand the recall linked to the Peanut Corporation of America, which now includes actual peanuts.
The removal includes Vitamin Shoppe Campground Lake Trail Mix, Sweet & Spicy Bayou Mix, and Wilderness Bold Trail Mix manufactured by Hershey Import Company and which contained peanuts. None of the products have been linked to any illnesses associated with the recall. Consumers who want more information or a refund can call The Vitamin Shoppe customer service at 1-866-293-3367.
