Roth's IGA Foodliner, Inc. dba Roth's Fresh Markets Expands Recall to Include Bulk Dry Roasted Peanuts (Unsalted) Also Used For Self-Serve Grind Peanut Butter and Bulk Aunt Patty's Cascade Trail Mix Because of Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 4, 2009 -- Roth’s IGA Foodliner, Inc. of Salem, Oregon is expanding their recall to include Bulk Dry Roast Peanuts (unsalted) also used for self-serve grind Peanut Butter, and bulk Aunt Patty’s Cascade Trail Mix sold between January 1, 2007 and February 13, 2009, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.  The products were manufactured using peanuts recalled by Peanut Corporation of America Plainview, Texas facility because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.  Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.  In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritic.

Products were distributed in the Roth’s Fresh Market locations in Salem, Keizer, Silverton, McMinnville and Stayton, Oregon.  The products were delivered to Roth’s Fresh Markets by Glorybee Foods, Inc. (distributor of Aunt Patty’s Products) and stocked in the bulk food section at each Roth’s store location.  Products were sold between January 1, 2007 and February 13, 2009 and include:

The above listed products would be packaged by the consumer from the bulk food bins located at Roth’s Fresh Markets, in either a plastic baggy with a twist tie listing the identifying Roth’s Bulk Food Bin Number, or placed in a plastic sealed container (ie. fresh ground peanut butter) and marked with the Roth’s Bulk Food Bin Number.  No expiration dates or other specific codes are found on the Bulk items.

No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products.  The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut product received was manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America’s Plainview, Texas facility.  Roth’s IGA Foodliner, Inc. has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.

Consumers who have purchased the above listed products from Roth’s Fresh Markets are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
