Premier Packing Company Is Recalling Dry Roasted Unsalted Peanuts, Dry Roasted Salted Peanuts, Fiesta Mix, Toasted Diced Peanuts, Honey Roasted Peanuts, and Roca Toffee because of a Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Greenacres, WA -- February 13, 2009 --- Premier Packing Company, Greenacres, WA, is recalling the following products: Dry Roasted Unsalted Peanuts, Dry Roasted Salted Peanuts, Fiesta Mix, Toasted Diced Peanuts, Honey Roasted Peanuts, and Roca Toffee because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. 

The products were manufactured using peanuts/peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of America because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. 

Products were distributed to retail stores in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and through The Nut Factory retail store.  Products were packaged in 10 and 25 lb. bulk plastic heat-sealed cellophane flatpacks and 1 to 5 lb. plastic bags.  

The label for the bulk 10 and 25 lb. products include: “The Nut Factory Greenacres, WA”, the name of the product, and a UPC Code.  Products packaged in 1 to 5 lb. plastic bags include the name of the product, a five digit Item number, and “The Nut Factory Greenacres, WA".  Products include:

No consumer complaints or known illnesses have been reported to Premier in connection to these products to date.

The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut products received were manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America.  Premier Packing Company has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.
