FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Warren, Mich. – February 9, 2009 – Pic -A - Nut Company today announced a voluntary recall of peanut products due to the possibility the products may be contaminated with Salmonella,an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The recalled products were sold in Michigan to distributors and to retail stores.

Pic-A-Nut is not aware of any illnesses to date related to its recalled products.
The recall is the result of the peanut butter used to manufacturer these products being recalled by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA).
Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to destroy them. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-842-1222, M-F 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
