Garber's Ice Cream Company Issues Voluntary Recall on Half Gallon Tin Roof Sundae Ice Cream and Nutty Cones Due to Expanded Peanut Recall by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- February 10, 2009 -- Garber's Ice Cream Co., Winchester, Va. is voluntarily recalling the following products produced at our facility due to the potential for salmonella contamination.

No other Garber's products are included in this regional recall. Garber's products are distributed in Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington D.C., New Jersey, and Florida.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis. Garber's Ice Cream Company has not received any consumer illness complaints associated with our products. However, we are taking the precautionary steps including removing all the impacted products from retail store shelves and the entire distribution system. Garber's is acting out of an abundance of caution at this time.

Garber's Ice Cream Company has comprehensive product safety and quality assurance policies and procedures in place to ensure the safety of our products. We will continue to monitor the situation and take all necessary action to ensure product safety.

Garber's requests that if consumers have any of these products in their home freezers manufactured before January 29, 2010 code dates, they should discard the product. and send the end flap or wrapper with code information back to Garber's for a full refund:
