Eillien’s Candies, Inc. Issues Voluntary Recall of Select Jars of Dry Roasted Peanuts Due to Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Green Bay, WI – (January 30, 2009) -  Eillien’s Candies Inc. is conducting a voluntary recall of the products listed below.  This voluntary recall is being conducted as a precautionary measure due to the fact that the products involved contain peanuts which are subject to the expanded recall of products produced by Peanut Corporation of America’s (PCA) Blakely, Georgia facility.  This PCA facility is the subject of an investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concerning a recent salmonella outbreak.

The product listed above should not be consumed, but rather returned to the store for a refund or exchange.

This recall affects all products with a sell by date prior to 12/31/10.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.  Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.  In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Eillien’s Candies, Inc. has not received any consumer or customer complaints on this product and there have been no reported illnesses associated with this product.
