FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Decatur, IN -- February 20, 2009 --- Dean Foods of Decatur is voluntarily recalling ½
gallon containers of IGA Tin Roof Sundae ice cream printed with a "BEST BY" date of
April 9, 2009, (printed as BEST BY APR 9 2009) and a Universal Product Code (UPC)
of 4127046102. This recall was initiated because the affected product contains peanut
ingredients supplied by Peanut Corporation of America which may be contaminated with
Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in
children, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Dean Foods of
Decatur has received no reports of illnesses related to the affected product. No other
Dean Foods of Decatur or IGA products are involved in this recall.
The recall involves approximately 1,590 units of the affected product, which were distributed in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia through numerous IGA affiliated retail outlets.
HOW TO IDENTIFY THE RECALLED PRODUCT
This recall includes ½ gallon containers of IGA Tin Roof ice cream printed with a "BEST BY" date of April 9, 2009 (printed as BEST BY APR 9 2009) and a UPC code of 4127046102; Consumers can find the "BEST BY" date on side of the container and the UPC code on the end of the package. No other Dean Foods of Decatur or IGA products are involved in this recall.
Dean Foods of Decatur has ceased distribution of the affected product. Consumers who have this product should not consume it. They should discard the product and may return the product package to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange. Consumers with questions can contact the Company at 1-877-234-0022.
The Indiana State Board of Animal Health and the Food and Drug Administration have been notified of this voluntary recall.
