Dairy Fresh Recalls Half-Gallon Containers of Southern Home Tin Roof Sundae Ice Cream Due to Expanded Recall by Peanut Corporation of America

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Winston-Salem, NC -- February 20, 2009 --- Dairy Fresh in Winston-Salem, NC is voluntarily recalling ½ Gallon Containers of Southern Home Tin Roof Sundae ice cream printed with a "SELL BY" date of August 30, 2009 or earlier (printed as MM-DD-YY) and a Universal Product Code (UPC) of 0788040516. This recall was initiated because the affected product contains peanut ingredients supplied by Peanut Corporation of America which may be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Dairy Fresh has received no reports of illnesses related to the affected product. No other Dairy Fresh or Southern Home products are involved in this recall.

The recall involves approximately 36,516 units of the affected product. The product was distributed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee through BI-LO retail outlets, and was also distributed in Alabama and the Florida panhandle through Bruno's, Food World and Food Max retail outlets.

HOW TO IDENTIFY THE RECALLED PRODUCT

This recall includes ½ gallon containers of Southern Home Tin Roof Sundae ice cream printed with a "SELL BY" date of August 30, 2009 or earlier (printed as MM-DD-YY) and a UPC code of 0788040516. Consumers can find the date and the UPC code on the side of the package. No other Dairy Fresh or Southern Home products are involved in this recall.

Dairy Fresh has ceased distribution of the affected product. Consumers who have this product should not consume it. They should discard it and may return the product package to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange. Consumers with questions can contact the Dairy Fresh at 1-877-234-0022.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Health and Natural Resources and the Food and Drug Administration have been notified of this voluntary recall.
